TYR got spooked when we were out yesterday and he passed a dried up branch and it touched him and made a noise. He thought it was a predator trying to grab him so he FREAKED OUT on the walk and we had to rush home and since then he has been acting all spooked out and paranoid which I realized is normal for a wild fox and wanted to share with everyone
This is actually a completely normal behavior for a fox in the wild
He is still guarding our den from the predators and checking every entrance, always checking their backs, eating a little and checking around to see who is coming to steal your food, eat as fast as you can in case something shows up, always anticipating something is going to jump out and kill you. This is just a glimpse of what a fox in the wild had to endure on a day to day basis... This type of thinking and acting is every second of the day for their whole lives which happens to only be 2 - 3 years. So do they really have it better in the wild.
TYR comes 23 generations removed from the wild and while we were out yesterday afternoon a dried up branch brushed up against him as he passed it and it made a noise and touched him so he thought it was another predator trying to kill him, a big birs like a eagle or a hawk. He has been on Alpha code RED, Defcon 1 status for about a day now. This is their type of survival skills, they are always paranoid and on the alert. Anyone who has seen a fox in the wild can tell you if you blink they are gone. TYR has nothing to worry about but you can't take their survival skills away, they will always be there which is why foxes are not anything like dogs, they certain characteristics are very similar like the way they play but you can also get a tiger to play with a ball so do you compare it to a dog and/or try to treat it like a dog??
You have to really evaluate the thinking behind these animals, what they are made of, and what they fear which to anyone that would treat a fox like a dog would think its ok because dogs do it but you can really hurt the animal without knowing what makes them tick. That is why it is huge responsibility to have one of these beautiful creatures in your home. They are soooo cute but pack a hefty punch in the way of having to understand their thinking, adapting to it, and not reacting to it with anger or in a negative way. They are only being themselves..... how would you like it :)
I love my Fox!!
